From May 5 to 7, the Tianqiao Theater in Beijing played host to the 14th edition of the National Ballet of China's annual ballet creative workshop, where a mesmerizing display of talent unfolded on stage.

Thirteen young choreographers presented a total of 11 original ballet pieces, each brimming with creativity and artistry, marking a celebration of innovation within the realm of ballet.

An annual spring tradition, the ballet creative workshop serves as a platform for emerging choreographers to showcase their works and artistic visions.

A standout moment of the workshop was the debut of Ballade, a ballet piece by the late choreographer Goh Choo-san (1948-87), making its premiere in China. Crafted as a heartfelt tribute to his niece, Goh Chan-hon, a budding ballerina at the time, Ballade intricately weaves themes of innocence, discovery, and the transformative power of dance. Collaborating with the dancers of the National Ballet of China, Goh Choo-san's final masterpiece resonated with emotional depth and artistic finesse.

Additionally, Rhapsody of the Wilderness by choreographer Li Yang drew inspiration from the enchanting landscapes of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, blending traditional folk dances with contemporary movements to create a visually captivating narrative.

Choreographers Xu Yan and Wang Jiyu mesmerized audiences with The Goldberg Variations, a choreographic interpretation infused with the essence of Bach's renowned musical composition, showcasing a harmonious fusion of dance and music.

Meanwhile, Journey of Life by choreographer Peng Jie artfully depicted the passage of a person's existence from youth to old age, embodying the universal themes of growth, reflection, and the cyclical nature of life.
